Jon Voight is attached to play Paul “Bear” Bryant in WOODLAWN. The sports drama centers on star African-American football player Tony Nathan and the forced integration of Alabama’s public schools in the early 1970s. Bryant recruited Nathan to play for the University of Alabama and the film will focus on the 1974 Banks vs. Woodlawn game, which drew over 40,000 spectators. Jon and Andrew Erwin are directing the project, while Nic Bishop, Sean Astin, C. Thomas Howell, Sherri Shepherd, Lance Nichols, Caleb Castille, and Richard Kohnke will all star.
This project is right in Voight’s wheelhouse after his starring roles in sports films like The All-American Boy, The Champ, Varsity Blues, and Glory Road. Currently, Voight playd Liev Schreiber’s dad on the Showtime crime drama Ray Donovan. His upcoming projects include roles in Michael Carney’s Same Kind of Different as Me and the biopic Reagan.
