Jonathan Herman has signed on to write the current draft of Universal’s remake of SCARFACE.

He is the third writer to helm the project, behind David Ayer and Paul Attanasio. Herman was chosen by Universal after having penned the final draft of the upcoming biopic Straight Outta Compton.

This will mark the third take on the character that will be inspired by the 1932 and 1983 films directed by Howard Hawks and Brian De Palma, respectively.

The film reportedly follows the character in Los Angeles, where the previous films were based in Florida.

Herman is currently in development on the remake of The Birds with Universal.
