Josh Charles Will Star In High School Basketball Drama “Amateur” (EXCLUSIVE)

〉 Charles recently appeared in the Tina Fey dramedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

Former The Good Wife star is starring in the high school basketball drama . Ryan Koo is directing from his own script, which is also based on his 2013 short film of the same name.

The story centers on a talented basketball player who struggles to fit in with older players on his high school team, and his new coach. Charles will play coach Jimmy Gaines opposite up-and-comer Michael Rainey Jr. in the lead. Rainey Jr. is perhaps best known for his role in Lee Daniel’s The Butler. Brian White and Sharon Leal round out the cast.

Jason Michael Berman is producing for Mandalay Pictures alongside Chip Hourihan, with Netflix financing and taking global distribution. The film also marks the feature film debut for rising director Koo. See his award-winning short, Amateur, below:

Charles recently appeared in the Tina Fey dramedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and the indie drama I Smile Back. He is a frequent cast member on the Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer and will appear in the upcoming season of Drunk History. Charles recently wrapped two features, the thriller Border Crossing with Julia Styles and the drama Oppenheimer Strategies with Richard Gere.
