The word in Hollywood today is that Josh Gad is being eyed to star in RUSS AND ROGER GO BEYOND. The biopic explores the relationship between emerging film critic Roger Ebert and soft-core filmmaker Russ Meyer, who teamed up in 1970 to make the cult classic Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. Gad is being courted to portray Ebert, and though the actor has not yet read the script or confirmed that a deal was in place, he is rumored to be the film’s producer’s top choice. Will Ferrell was previously reported to be in talks to star as Meyer, but there has not yet been any confirmation. Christopher Cluess will write the script, with no director currently attached.
Gad has had a remarkable year, proving himself a fiercely comedic talent with a penchant for dramatic roles as well. He most recently starred in the Steve Jobs biopic Jobs, the drama Wish I Was Here and voiced the lovable Olaf in the Disney animated hit Frozen. He’s also well known for his role in the original run of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical The Book of Mormon. Up next, he’ll star in the comedies Pixels and The Wedding Ringer. Gad has several projects in development, including Kinison and Angry Birds. He will also write Triplets, The Untitled Gad/Disney Project and Gilligan’s Island , the latter of which he will also star.
