Josh Gad has been tapped to join Disney’s upcoming live-action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Casting has been revving up as of late, with Emma Watson’s attachment having been announced in January, and Luke Evans’ and Dan Stevens’ casting having been announced just last week. Watson will star as Belle, Stevens as the Beast/Prince, and Evans as Gaston. The film will serve as a live-action adaptation of the classic 1991 animated film and will fit Disney’s current streak of crafting live-action versions of their animated classics, following suite with Cinderella, which is now playing theatrically.
Gad has been cast as Le Fou, the loyal and buffoonish sidekick to Gaston. The character was specifically created for the 1991 movie.
Bill Condon will helm the picture from a script written by Stephen Chbosky.
Gad recently worked with Disney when he voiced the loveable snowman Olaf for their animated hit Frozen. He also just appeared in the 2015 comedy The Wedding Ringer and Zack Braff’s Wish I Was Here. Next, the funnyman will star on the FX series The Comedians, opposite Billy Crystal, and will star in Chris Columbus’ Pixels, which stars Adam Sandler, Michelle Monaghan, and Peter Dinklage. He’s also set to write and star in the Gilligan’s Island remake.
Gad is repped by ICM and Brillstein Entertainment.
