Actress Judy Greer is set to make her directorial debut on the comedic drama A HAPPENING OF MONUMENTAL PROPORTIONS. Common and Allison Janney will star in the dramedy, which Chris Weitz, Paul Weitz and Andrew Miano are producing under their Depth of Field banner. David Gardner of Principato-Young Entertainment is also producing.
Written by Gary Lundy, the script was both a semi-finalist for the Nicholl Fellowship and a finalist for the Sundance Writer’s Lab. The pic is fully financed by Great Point Media and will shoot in Los Angeles in January of 2016. The film takes place in a small school in Los Angeles, which serves as the setting for an all-in-one-day story of of sex, lies and death.
“Judy had become an old friend of ours so when she called and she wanted to direct this for us, it was very flattering,” Miano said, regarding Greer’s involvement. “Of course we said yes.”
This summer alone Greer appeared in Jurassic World, Ant-Man, Entourage, and Tomorrowland. As far as her directing credits go, she previously helmed a short film for AOL. Greer is currently filming War of the Planet of the Apes, reprising her role as Caesar’s wife Cornelia.
She’s repped by CAA and Principato-Young Entertainment.
