Julia Roberts Attached to Star in TV Adaptation of “Today Will Be Different”

Academy Award-winning actor has been tapped to star in the upcoming adaptation of the book TODAY WILL BE DIFFERENT by Maria Semple, which was published at the end of September. This will mark Roberts’ return to since she starred in Ryan Murphy’s adaptation of the stage play The Normal Heart on HBO.

The series follows a day in the life of Eleanor Flood, who had ambitions to wake up and have the best day of her life but is forced to abandon those plans when she finds a strange, new future unfolding.

Semple will adapt the book for the small screen. Megan Ellison from Annapurna Pictures nabbed the film rights to the book and is set to serve as an executive with Semple and former HBO exec Sue Naegle. Roberts will also produce the series through her Red Om Films banner. The series has yet to be attached to a network.

Roberts recently appeared in the Jodie Foster-directed Money Monster opposite George Clooney. She can be seen next in the adaptation of R.J. Palacio’s novel Wonder with Jacob Tremblay.
