Black Label Media produced and fully financed the film, which is billed as a modern retelling of the Cyrano de Bergerac story set in high school. Purser plays the title character, an intelligent teen who doesn’t fall into the shallow definition of high school pretty, but thanks to a case of mistaken identity that results in unexpected romance, must team with a popular girl in order to win over her crush.
Ian Samuels directed from a script by Lindsay Beer, and the film co-stars RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Kristine Froseth, Noah Centineo, Alan Ruck, Lea Thompson and This Is Us star Chrissy Metz.
Black Label’s Molly Smith, Rachel Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Thad Luckinbill produced Sierra Burgess, and WME brokered the Netflix deal on behalf of the company.
Black Label’s upcoming films include the Chris Hemsworth war movie 12 Strong and Sicario 2: Soldado, which brings back original stars Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro. The company previously co-financed and executive produced La La Land with Lionsgate.
