Justin Lin is eyeing the director’s chair for SPACE JAM 2, the Warner Bros. follow-up to the classic 1996 live-action/animated hybrid which will star LeBron James.
Lin is co-writing the script with Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello. In addition to directing, he is looking to produce the movie under his production banner, Perfect Storm Entertainment.
There have been rumors brewing about the sequel, but when James was rumored to star in the sequel, the project came to fruition. Now with Lin circling the project, the development of the feature is gaining momentum.
The plot of the sequel is being kept under wraps. The original movie centered around Michael Jordan as he teamed up with popular characters from the Looney Tunes universe to play a game of basketball against evil aliens who were threatening their freedom. The movie also had appearances from Bill Murray, as well as basketball stars Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and Patrick Ewing.
Lin is best known for his work with the Fast and Furious franchise. He recently directed Star Trek Beyond, which opens in theaters July 22. He is repped by CAA and Maven Label.
James is a NBA all-star and made his acting debut in Amy Schumer’s comedy, Trainwreck. He is currently attached as the executive produce the comedy, Ballers which is being written by Kevin Hart. He is repped by WME.
