Doctor Who alum Karen Gillan has been tapped for a big role in Sony’s upcoming remake of the ’90s adventure pic JUMANJI. She is set to dive into some board game fun with Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Nick Jonas.
Gillan will play the character named Martha in the all-star ensemble. No details have been revealed on director Jake Kasdan’s reimagining, but this iteration was originally drafted by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommer with a current script by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. The original 1995 movie starred Robin Williams and was based on the Caldecott Medal-winning novel by Chris Van Allsburg.
William Teitler is set to produce while Kasdan, Van Allsburg, Johnson, David Householter, Ted Field, Mike Weber and Dany Garcia serrving as executive producers. The movie is slated to be released on July 28, 2017.
Gillan is set to reprise her role as Nebula in the forthcoming Marvel Studios blockbuster sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. She also stars in Ti West’s western In a Valley of Violence opposite Ethan Hawke and John Travolta.
She is repped by Troika and UTA.
