House of Cards alumna Kate Mara has been cast as the lead in a drama series based on Nellie Bly’s book 10 DAYS IN A MAD-HOUSE. The currently untitled project is now in development from Entertainment One.
The series is based on a collection of articles for The New York World, the articles were later compiled into a book in 1887. Bly worked as an undercover reporter who faked insanity at a women’s boarding house, to be involuntarily committed to an insane asylum. She then investigated reports of brutality and neglect at the Women’s Lunatic Asylum.
Jacob’s Ladder scribe Sarah Thorp will write and executive produce alongside Mara. Senior Vice President Carolyn Newman will oversee the series.
Mara most recently starred in the title role of Megan Leavey. She is known for her role in Netflix’s political drama House Of Cards. She is represented by UTA and Mosaic.
