Katherine Waterston, Sunny Suljic to Star in Jonah Hill’s Directorial Debut “Mid-90s” (Exclusive)

Katherine Waterston and The Killing of a Sacred Deer‘s Sunny Suljic are set to star in Jonah Hill’s directorial debut MID-90S, the Tracking Board has exclusively learned.

Scott Rudin, Eli Bush and Ken Kao are producing the film, which is currently in production and will be released by A24.

Hill wrote the script, which is set in the mid-1990s. The coming-of-age drama follows a teenager named Stevie (Suljic) who has a tough home life and finds solace in a group of young skateboarders.

The role shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for Suljic, who just played a young skateboarder in Gus Van Sant’s Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot, which co-stars Hill.

Waterston is playing Stevie’s co-dependent single mother. She replaces Michelle Williams, whose Manchester by the Sea co-star Lucas Hedges remains onboard to play Stevie’s troubled older brother. Williams’ exit can be chalked up to scheduling issues, according to sources.

Waterston recently starred in Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant and will soon be seen in Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky and Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s The Current War, which is expected to be an awards contender this fall. Waterston is also set to reprise her role as Tina Goldstein in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. She’s represented by UTA and Silver Lining Entertainment.

Suljic is an up-and-coming young actor who will soon be seen as Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman’s son in The Killing of a Sacred Deer, which is also being released by A24 this fall. He’s repped by WME and Monster Talent Management.
