The first official teaser trailer for the highly anticipated John Wick: Chapter 2 dropped during New York Comic-Con over the weekend, along with some news about the action franchise. Director Chad Stahelski confirmed that JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 is already in the works.
John Wick: Chapter 2 stars Reeves as the former hitman who is once again forced out of retirement, this time by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.
Although Chapter 2 doesn’t hit theaters until February 2017, the hype surrounding the pic already has the studio looking into possible story ideas for a third installment. Stahelski told Collider that, “the studio has asked us to put our heads together and see if we can come up with something. Winston’s [McShane] is a big part of the next one, so is Lance Reddick. We’ve got some ideas.”
John Wick, which hit theaters in the fall of 2014, became a bit of a sleeper hit thanks to positive reviews, particularly singling out Reeves’ performance. The film more than doubled its $20 million budget domestically and pulled in over $80 million worldwide. Derek Kolstad, the screenwriter behind the first two installments, is expected to return as the screenwriter.
Stahelski is repped by WME.
