CBS All Access has ordered to series TELL ME A STORY, a fantasy psychological thriller from Vampire Diaries co-creator Kevin Williamson.
The first season of the anthology series, which takes the world’s most beloved fairy tales and reimagines them as a dark and twisted psychological thriller, will interweave The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk into a subversive tale of love, loss, greed, revenge and murder.
From the official description, it’s unclear if the show, set in modern day New York City, will indeed have supernatural and fantasy elements, or will tell grounded, real life stories based on the themes of the fairytales, though the Spanish-language original on which this is based, did not.
In the Three Little Pigs-inspired story, for example, three pig mask-wearing robbers shoot the wrong hostage, setting off a quest for revenge from the husband of the deceased woman.
Williamson is writing and will executive produce alongside Aaron Kaplan, whose Kapital Entertainment is behind the project, and Dana Honor.
The original Spanish-language series was created by Marcos Osorio Vidal in collaboration with Gustavo Malajovich and Hernan Goldfrid. The series was produced by Gonzalo Cilley and Andres Tovar of Resonant and originally aired on the Spanish television network Antena tres..
The series marks Williamson’s first foray outside the traditional TV studio system. The longtime Warner Bros TV writer/EP created such shows as Dawson’s Creek, Vampire Diaries, Stalker and most recently, ABC’s Time After Time, for the studio.
It also marks another big creator stepping outside the major studios, following Shonda Rhimes, who recently left ABC Studios for a huge deal with Netflix.
Williamson is repped by WME.
