Fox is rebooting 24 this year with new series 24: LEGACY. The series centers on new characters but the team behind the show is leaving the door open for original series star, Kiefer Sutherland, to return as Jack Bauer.
“I do think the character has life in him, whether it’s a movie or if he intersects with this new iteration of 24, [Legacy],” said executive producer Howard Gordon at his master class at the ATX TV Festival in Austin. “I sure would love to see him at some point on the show, and I don’t think he’s ruled it out, either.”
The goal would be for Sutherland’s Jack Bauer to return for an arc in the second part of Legacy‘s 12-episode first season.
Sutherland is set to star in Designated Survivor on ABC this fall while executive producing 24: Legacy. There is currently no deal for Sutherland to return for the reboot.
The new series centers on a new character played by Corey Hawkins, whom Gordan says is not a “copy of Jack Bauer” but will be “compelling his own right.”
24: Legacy will premiere on Fox after Super Bowl LI next year.
