All one needs to look at is the cast for KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE, Matthew Vaughn’s highly anticipated follow-up to his hit 2015 film, based on the graphic novel of the same name, to start feeling the tremors of excitement. Then, watch this official trailer, and if it wasn’t already, The Golden Circle will jump to one of the films you’re most excited about in the latter half of the year.
The first Kingsman was one of my favorite movies of 2015 and has since remained, catapulting this sequel to be an Appointment Film for the year. So far, the trailers have only stoked the fire of my anticipation.
This new trailer doesn’t give much more in the way of plot, although Julianne Moore’s Poppy is more explicitly situated as the villain this time around, although her motivations remain unclear. What we do get, however, is stellar action (Pedro Pascal and that lasso!), the Kingsman meeting and joining forces with the Statesman, their “American cousins,” as well Colin Firth’s beloved Harry Hart officially back in action, complete with his bulletproof umbrella.
As noted by my colleague, though, there’s been a lack of Roxy (Sophie Cookson) in the trailers and we’re hoping that means a secret role, rather than anything direr. Although in this universe, death is clearly not as straightforward as in our own.
Regardless, it’s a good time to remind everyone: “Manners maketh man.”
