20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE, and if one thing has been made clear, it’s that Matthew Vaughn is doing things his way again — and the sequel looks all the better for it.
Set to Frank Sinatra’s classic tune “My Way,” the trailer sees Taron Egerton return as Eggsy alongside Mark Strong and, yes, a one-eyed Colin Firth, who reprises his role as Harry Hart even though the character died in the original 2014 movie.
That trio is joined by new cast members Julianne Moore (getting top billing, oddly), Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges and Sir Elton John. That’s four (!) Oscar winners, mind you, not even counting Firth.
In The Golden Circle, the Kingsman headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, which leads Eggsy to discover an allied spy organization in the U.S. called Statesman. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy.
Vaughn co-wrote the script with Jane Goldman and produced the Kingsman sequel under his Marv Films banner. This trailer delivers a fun taste of where The Golden Circle might go, but judging from the additional footage I saw at CinemaCon, it’s clear that Vaughn still has plenty of surprises up his sleeve. This is merely the beginning.
The original Kingsman: The Secret Service grossed $415 million worldwide, and Fox will release the action-packed, silver-tongued sequel The Golden Circle on Sept. 22.
