Kristen Bell has signed on to join her husband, Dax Shepard, on CHIPS. Shepard has written the script and is directing the remake of the 70s and 80s TV show as well as playing Officer Jon Baker and producing for his Primate Pictures with Andrew Panay. Michael Pena will be playing the other lead, Frank “Ponch” Poncherello, and Vincent D’Onofrio has signed on to play the bad guy. Rick Rosner, the original show’s creator, will executive produce.
The series followed the adventures of Baker and Ponch, two California Highway Patrol officers as they bust crimes on the Golden State’s freeways.
This will not be the first time the couple has worked together. Shepard had a supporting role in the 2010 Kristen Bell starrer, When in Rome, and in 2012 Shepard wrote, directed, and starred in Hiti & Run with Bell co-starring and co-producing.
Bell has a fan base that covers most of cinema. She starred in the Disney mega-hit Frozen, her character Veronica Mars was so popular that it spawned one of the most successful crowdfunding film campaigns ever, she was comedy hit as the titular character in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and she’s developed serious indie cred with films like The Lifeguard. She is repped by CAA.
