Kristen Connolly signs on for her second “scream queen” role in Goldcrest’s SLUMBER. She previously starred in The Cabin In The Woods opposite Chris Hemsworth. Goldcrest Films is financing the horror flick with commercial director Jonathan Hopkins at the helm.
The film tells the story of Alice, a rationally minded sleep doctor, who is forced to abandon scientific reason and accept that a family is being terrorized by a parasitic demon which has existed in every human culture since records began. Paralyzing victims as they sleep, the ‘Night Hag’ is the original nightmare.
Connolly will play Alice, with Hopkins stating “I’ve had an eye on Kristen since Cabin In The Woods and couldn’t be more thrilled to have her on board.” Pascal Degove of Goldcrest proclaims that “Kristen is a real rising star.”
The script comes from Hopkins and 2013 Blood List screenwriter Richard Hobley (you can see this year’s list here). Degove will produce along with Mark Lane and James Harris of The Tea Shop & Company. Goldcrest launched the film to distributors with a teaser shot over two days. It’s been a banner year for Hobley, a 2014 Young & Hungry List writer who has seen multiple projects move into development, while signing with Jon Kanak of Kanak Management and Paradigm Talent.
Connolly has previously appeared in the the Steven Spielberg drama The Whispers that aired on ABC and Netflix’s House of Cards. She will next be seen starring opposite Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfeiffer in HBO’s miniseries Wizard Of Lies, directed by Barry Levinson.
Connolly is repped by Paradigm and Untitled Entertainment.
