Kumail Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan have been tapped to star in THE BIG SICK. The film written by Nanjiani and his wife Emily V. Gordon tells the story of the relationship challenges faced by a Pakistani man and his American girlfriend.
Based on the life of Nanjiani and Gordon’s lives, the FilmNation film will star him in the male lead opposite Kazan. Judd Apatow and Barry Mendel are set to produce and Michael Showalter will be in the director’s chair for the project.
Nanjiani is well known in comedy circles. He is the writer and executive producer of the stand-up comedy show, The Meltdown. He also stars in the HBO comedy, Silicon Valley, which is entering its third season and recently made an appearance in the X-Files reboot as well as episodes of Portlandia, Broad City, and The Grinder.
Kazan recently appeared opposite Sandra Bullock in last year’s Our Brand Is Crisis. She can be seen later this year in the comedy, My Blind Brother with Adam Scott and Jenny Slate. She also stars in the upcoming Bryan Bertino horror, There Are Monsters with Scott Speedman.
Both actors are repped by UTA.
