Kurt Russell has been named by James Gunn as his choice to play Chris Pratt’s father in Marvel’s upcoming GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. Russell has not officially been offered the part yet but meetings between the Hateful Eight star and Marvel are expected to take place soon.
Guardians 2 is slated to be released May 5, 2017 and is scheduled to start production early 2016. Chris Pratt is returning along with Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. Rising star Pom Klementieff has also been cast in an unspecified role. While not much is known about the story, Peter Quill’s relationship with his long lost father will factor heavily in the narrative.
This news rounds out what has been a busy year for Russell. He starred in Universal’s smash Furious 7, while also nabbing a main role in the Mark Wahlberg vehicle Deepwater Horizon. He will next be seen in the much-anticipated Quentin Tarantino western The Hateful Eight, which opens on Christmas Day.
