Comedy Central continues to play with its late night block with the network announcing that @MIDNIGHT will end next month. The show is hosted by Chris Hardwick and has been running since 2013.
The show is an Internet-based panel game show where Hardwick stands before a panel of three guest’s commentators, joking about popular topics. The show also threw out topics to the public to play along with the show.
“Comedy Central and Chris Hardwick have mutually agreed the August 4th episode of @midnight will be the series finale,” the network announced in a statement.
After the critically acclaimed and audience loved duo of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert ended several years ago, the network has been on the hunt for a series to run alongside The Daily Show and Stewart’s replacement Trevor Noah. @midnight had a successful run, even airing alongside the Daily Show and The Colbert Report early on.
The network recently announced they were developing a new series with Daily Show‘s Jordan Klepper, and it will eventually land in the 11:30pm spot. In the mean time, The President Show, will remain on Thursday nights and the network added a new weekly series hosted by Jim Jeffries in June.
