Launch Pad alum Jai Brandon has signed with manager Will Rowbotham of 3 Arts Entertainment. Brandon’s Launch Pad Feature Competition script WHISPERS FROM THE WATCHTOWER, which is described as a cross between Gone Baby Gone and Prisoners, won him a spot in the 2016 LPFC Top 10. The feature tells the story of a popular talk show host and professional skeptic who’s forced to work with a psychic in a last ditch attempt to find his missing daughter.
Enhancing its supernatural, psychic story with a well-crafted atmosphere of impending doom that sets the perfect tone for a slow-burn ensemble mystery, the script builds its twisty investigations on top of a solid foundation of character. The whole story is incredibly tight, making the script a quick, engaging read. It drew in our readers and judges and kept them captivated throughout, and engages potent themes of skepticism, love, and fate.
Brandon is a filmmaker living in NYC, and is largely self-taught as a screenwriter. Since beginning to write in 2010, he’s placed as a quarterfinalist in several well-known screenwriting competitions, and Whispers from the Watchtower is his fourth completed feature. Brandon has also written a few short films, the latest of which he tackled not only as a writer, but also as a producer, director, editor, and lead actor. When he’s not busy acting or writing films, he enjoys watching television and movies, listening to music, and cheering on the Buffalo Bills.
3 Arts Entertainment is not only one of Hollywood’s largest management companies, it also doubles as the powerhouse production company behind films like 13 Hours, Unbroken, and Edge of Tomorrow, and shows like Silicon Valley, Master of None, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, amongst many more. On the management side, the company represents everyone from Chris Evans and Jessica Alba to Aziz Ansari and Tina Fey, just to name a few. Rowbotham’s own clients include Young & Hungry alum Adam Mansbach and the Hit List-featured writing team Ori Guendelman & Rob McClelland.
The Launch Pad Manuscript Competition is currently accepting entries for its 2017 competition.
