The success stories keep coming for Launch Pad alums, as Top Comedy winner Paul Chang has signed with Dash Aiken and Rock Shaink of Romark Entertainment, as well as getting staffed on the new Disney Channel animated series THE CURSE OF MOLLY MCGEE. The series will follow the adventures of a tween optimist and a grumpy ghost, and is produced by the Emmy-winning team behind Nickelodeon’s THE PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR.
Chang’s Launch Pad project PLEASE LET EVERYTHING BE ALL RIGHT is a dark comedy crime drama that follows a desperate single mom and a shady restaurant owner who coincidentally attempt to rob a bank at the same time. Pitched as HELL OR HIGH WATER meets FARGO, the script was a favorite of our judges, who saw it as “a fresh new take on the buddy comedy” which combines “clear writing, witty dialogue and tight plotting to upend expectations at every turn, creating a thrilling action comedy that is both funny and touching in equal measures.”
Paul was born in Australia and grew up in Singapore and Hong Kong before moving to the U.S. as a teenager. He attended the University of Chicago where he participated in both improv and sketch comedy, and obtained an MBA from UCLA. Chang is a 2019 CAPE New Writers Fellow, and has been a finalist and semi-finalist in the Slamdance and Final Draft Big Break competitions. He has also worked at Disney-ABC’s Freeform, evaluating films and TV series for acquisition.
By signing with Romark, Paul becomes the 418th writer to land representation after finding success in the Launch Pad Competitions, while his staffing makes him the 65th such success since the competitions began.
