Paramount picked up spec MATRIARCH from Launch Pad writer Eric Koenig last night in a mid-six figure deal. The film follows an FBI agent who has 48 hours to convince a serial killer to reveal where she’s hidden her final victim. Red Wagon’s Doug Wick and Romark Entertainment’s Rock Shaink are attached to produce.
Matriarch has been heating up the spec market in the past couple of days. It went out wide, hitting nearly all major territories, before Paramount made their offer. Formerly titled Malnurtured, Koenig’s spec also landed him a spot in the top 25 of the 2014 Launch Pad Features Competition.
This is the third Launch Pad competition in which a semifinalist has sold their spec within a week of the top 25 announcement. In 2013, 14 out of the top 25 LPFC writers secured representation after the competition; this year, 16 out of the top 25 Launch Pad Pilot Competition writers landed reps.
Koenig came to screenwriting via a variety of jobs, including military aircraft technician, massage therapist, and currently, dentist. Matriarch is his first feature sale.
