Tony-winning actress Laura Benanti is joining the cast of the CBS pilot SUPERGIRL in a recurring role. She will play Alura Zor-El, the birth mother of Kara aka Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). The new series, based on DC Comis characters, comes from Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions, with Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler writing and executive producing. This isn’t Berlanti’s only superhero property – he also writes and exec produces the popular The Flash and Arrow on the CW
Benanti previously won a Tony Award for her role in Gypsy. She currently recurs as Sadie Stone on ABC’s Nashville with Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere. Her other TV appearances include stints on The Good Wife, Nurse Jackie, and Law and Order: SVU.
