John Constantine is further solidifying his place in the CW Arrowverse and will appear on two episodes of the upcoming season of DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW.
The titular character from the canceled NBC drama Constantine, played by Matt Ryan, has seen an increasing resurgance on The CW, home of four DC comic book shows. Ryan first reprised the Constantine role on an episode of Arrow in Season 4, which led to Constantine the animated series, as voiced by Ryan, which will premiere on CW Seed in 2018.
While on Arrow, Constantine, who has resurrection and other mystical powers, helped a newly resurrected Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) find her soul again and become the superhero known as the White Canary. Of course, Sara is now on of the crucial members of the Legends of Tomorrow, so a reunion here would make some sense.
Constantine will appear in two episodes, and will be “doing an exorcism,” according to showrunner Phil Klemmer in a recent interview.
NBC canceled Constantine after just one 13-episode season, but fan outcry kept hopes of a resurrection alive long enough for the show’s studio WBTV to devise a plan for the character to be incorporated The CW’s Arrowverse.
And though having his own animated series is no guarantee the character will become a regular fixture on the live-action primetime shows, that is indeed how things worked out for DC superhero Vixen, who started out as a CW Seed animated series and is now a series regular on Legends played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers.
Legends of Tomorrow premieres Tuesday, October 10 at 9 p.m. ET, following The Flash, on The CW, and the animated Constantine will premiere in early 2018.
