Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, the Oscar-nominated screenwriters of The Fighter, will co-write the screenplay for a film about underdog soccer team LEICESTER CITY, the club that, despite the 5000-to-1 odds won the 2016 English Premiere League title, beating out powerhouse teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool. Tamasy and Johnson will work with Adrian Butchart, the screenwriter of Goal: The Dream Begins.
The story will focus on striker Jamie Vardy, who had been working in a factory before joining Leicester City, and in just four years led the team to its improbable victory, scoring in a Premiere League-record 11 consecutive matches with a total of 24 goals on the season to help the team clinch the title.
Simon Egan and Gareth Ellis-Unwin of Bedlam Productions are producing with Butchart’s Knightsbridge Films.
Tamasy and Johnson earned Oscar nominations as the writers of David O. Russell’s The Fighter. They also wrote the Disney Coast Guard drama The Finest Hours, starring Chris Pine, and the upcoming Boston Marathon bombing pic Patriots Day.
Tamasy and Johnson are repped by CAA, 42 and Gotham Group.
