Way back in the day (ok, it was only in 2011), we told you that Leonardo DiCaprio was in talks to star in THE REVENANT. (Read the article here.) Well, the wait is finally over, DiCaprio has officially signed on to star as Hugh Glass in the Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu helmed project. The film follows Glass, a 36-year-old fur trapper, as he joins the Rocky Mountain Fur Company on a dangerous expedition. After being mauled by a grizzly bear, robbed, and left for dead, Glass vows to survive — and miraculously does, making his way through 350 miles of uncharted wilderness to exact revenge.
The film would have started shooting a few years ago but that pesky “Wolf of Wall Street” took priority. I guess he’d rather be a wolf than get mauled by a bear. Leo’s got his hand in a lot of honey pots lately, having signed on to star in “Blood on Snow,” “Satori,” and David O. Russell’s “Legacy of Secrecy.” Not to mention his upcoming producing credits for “A Boy and His Tiger” and the adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World.”
Could this be the role that earns Leo that coveted golden statue? We’ll have to wait and see.
DiCaprio is repped by LBI Entertainment.
