Leslie Jones Is Officially On Her Way To Rio As NBC Contributor For 2016 Olympics

Leslie Jones

Yes, all the athletes at the 2016 Summer Olympics currently being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, are amazing, but there’s someone else who’s been making waves ever since the Opening Ceremonies began last Friday night: none other than Saturday Night Live cast member and Ghostbusters star . With her hilarious and infectiously excited live-tweeting of the games, people rallied around her to get her to Rio, and it appears NBC was listening because the network offered her an invitation to join them down south.

Fans will likely receive tweets in much of the same nature as Jones’ previous ones, but now she’ll be at the events in person — and how cool would it be if she got to interview some of the athletes?

As more and more people began to take notice of her tweets, NBC Sports’ Olympics executive Jim Bell reached out to her over Twitter with an invitation and luckily for all of us, she accepted! She will be joining the NBC team as a “contributor,” although it’s not clear exactly what she’ll be covering or doing, but it should be exciting nonetheless. She is expected to be in Rio by Friday.

Here are a few of her tweets from the games so far:

This is not the first time Jones has gained attention for her tweets. Plenty of people love her live-tweeting of the HBO series Game of Thrones, which ended up turning into a segment on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
