Fox’s new TV adaptation of the classic action comedy LETHAL WEAPON has clearly found and audience. The network has picked up five additional episodes for the series starring Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford.
The first season episode count comes in at 18 which is good news for fans. The show, which airs after the Empire, has garnered 12.4 million viewers to date making it Fox’s highest fall premiere in two years.
“Lethal Weapon delivers an explosive and wildly entertaining core relationship between two cops, with dynamic performances by Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, surrounded by cinematic action, endearing humor and true heart,” said Fox Entertainment president David Madden in a statement. “Matt Miller, McG, Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz have done a tremendous job on this show, which has proven to be a self-starter and solid companion for Empire.”
On the other side of things, TNT has not-so-good-news for its crime drama MURDER IN THE FIRST starring Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson. The network has opted not to pick up the series for a fourth season.
The season debuted in 2014 and was created by Steven Bochco and Eric Lodal. It was set up as an anthology instead of a standard procedural like the network’s other crime dramas of the past decade, including hits The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles.
In the show, Diggs stars as homicide inspector Terry English and Robertson as his partner Hildy Mulligan. Ian Anthony Dale, Raphael Sbarge, Lombardo Boyar, Currie Graham and Mimi Kirkland co-starred. The third and final season wrapped on September 4.
