Inside Out‘s Lewis Black is set to host the 2017 Writers Guild Awards. The ceremony will take place at New York’s Edison Ballroom on February 19. This year marks the first time that the show’s producing and writing team will be led by women with Bonnie Datt and Shannon Walker producing and Ann Cohen booked as head writer.
“I am honored to be the host of the 2017 Writers Guild Awards, of which I am a proud member,” Black said, “though all honors should go to the reality we have lived through for the past two years and are still living through, as it’s the most profound fiction I’ve ever witnessed.”
Black is a comedian, author, playwright, and actor. He has made numerous appearances on The Daily Show over the years with his own “Back in Black” segment and previously hosted the Comedy Central series Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil. He also lent his voice to Pixar’s Inside Out and appeared in Woody Allen’s Crisis in Six Scenes on Amazon Prime.
Datt has been a part of the WGA East’s council since 2011 and has credits across television, stage, and the web. Walker is the co-founder and director of the Lower East Side Film Festival and has been previously nominated for two WGA Awards for the web series Vicky & Lysander. Cohen has also received previous WGA attention for her work with Michael Moore on the series The Awful Truth and TV Nation.
The Los Angeles WGA Awards will take place on the same day as the east coast at the Beverly Hilton. Hugh Fink will executive produce for the third consecutive year. Patton Oswalt will host the event.
