Well, Will Smith still isn’t returning but Liam Hemsworth has reportedly been offered the starring role in 20th Century Fox’s Independence Day sequel, ID FOREVER. Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, but it’s safe to assume there will be aliens, explosions, and grandiose speeches. Roland Emmerich, who wrote and directed the original, is directing from Carter Blanchard’s screenplay. Pullman and Jeff Goldblum are anticipated to return for the sequel, though we can also assume that Pullman’s Thomas Whitmore will no longer be the president.
ID Forever is currently slated for a June 24, 2016 release.
Hemsworth stars as Gale Hawthorne in the massive Hunger Games franchise opposite Jennifer Lawrence. He’ll next be seen in the dramedy The Dressmaker, which follows a glamorous woman who returns to her small town in rural Australia. With her sewing machine and haute couture style, she transforms the women and exacts sweet revenge on those who did her wrong. Hemsworth is currently attached to Christian Gudegast’s action pic Aurora Rising, about an ace fighter pilot who gets recruited to join an elite squad testing a state-of-the-art aircraft.
