Actress Lily Rabe of the television series “American Horror Story” has been cast as legendary screen star Mary Pickford in the upcoming UNTITLED FAGIN MARY PICKFORD BIOPIC. Aside from several documentaries on the Canadian-American actress, this film will be the first feature-length narrative to tell the story of Pickford’s life.
Born Gladys Marie Smith in Toronto, Ms. Pickford was launched into the public eye after appearing in over 50 of D.W. Griffith’s short films known as “biographs”, playing a variety of roles. She went on to make other longer-format films as the industry progressed and, for a time, was the most popular actress in America. In 1919 Pickford founded United Artists with Griffith, Charlie Chaplin and husband Douglas Fairbanks; in 1927, she was a founding member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. The pic will focus on these years, the peak of her stardom, and her marriage to Fairbanks.
Scribe Josh Fagin adapted the story from “Pickford: The Woman Who Made Hollywood” by biographer Eileen Whitfield. The project is being produced by Julie Pacino, Jennifer DeLia of Poverty Row Entertainment alongside Said Zahraoui.
In addition to television, Rabe has appeared in “All Good Things” and “What Just Happened?”, as well as a number of other features.
Rabe is repped by ICM, and Fagin by Fewlas Entertainment.
