Robert Rugan has been tapped to direct MGM’s KIDROBOT, an adaptation of the hip street art and fashion-oriented toy brand. Details about the storyline have been kept under wraps, but the movie will be live-action.
Screenwriters Matt Ember and Tom Astle, the duo behind Epic and Home penned the script. Scott Aversano, whose previous titles include The Last Airbender and That Awkward Moment is set to produce.
Newcomer Rugan is a CLIO award-winning writer and director. He directed many short films and is currently developing a big-screen adaptation of Chip ‘N’ Dale Rescue Rangers which will be a hybrid of animation and live-action. He is also attached to direct Paramount’s Children of the Lamp, an adaptation of the fantasy novels by P.B. Kerr.
He is repped by Verve and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman.
