Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o is in talks to join Marvel’s BLACK PANTHER, where she would play the love interest to Chadwick Boseman’s titular superhero. Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther is being written by Coogler and Joe Robert Cole. Kevin Feige is producing.
The story centers on T’Challa, prince of the African kingdom of Wakanda, who must take over after his father’s murder at the hands of Klaw. The Black Panther character made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in this month’s Captain America: Civil War.
Black Panther would continue to expand Nyong’o’s relationship with Disney, as she has previously appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, voicing the character Maz Katana, and in this spring’s blockbuster hit The Jungle Book as the voice of Raksha the wolf. Nyong’o, who won an Oscar for her performance in 2014’s Best Picture winner Twelve Years a Slave, will next be seen in Disney’s Queen of Katwe opposite David Oyelowo.
