Fox has given a put pilot commitment to a remake of LUTHER. The BBC crime drama adaptation will center on a genius homicide detective whose brilliant mind can’t always save him from the dangerous violence he possesses. The original series starred Idris Elba and ran for three seasons on BBC. This time around, Elba will be executive producing along with the original series creator Neil Cross who is on board to both write and executive produce the American adaptation. 20th Century Fox TV, Chernin Entertainment, and BBC Worldwide Productions will produce with Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope, Jane Tranter, and Julie Gardner executive producing.
This project would mark the second attempt by Fox to remake a popular British series. Fox is currently airing Gracepoint, an adaptation of the British drama Broadchurch, both of which star Doctor Who alum David Tennant.
