Margaret Qualley is in negotiations to join Warner Bros.’ DEATH NOTE as the female lead. She would star opposite Nat Wolff in the adaptation of the popular manga series.
The film centers on a student who discovers a mysterious notebook that kills whomever’s name is written in it. When the student meets the notebook’s previous owner, a demon bend on ridding the world of anyone it deems evil or useless, he ends up tracked by an Interpol officer investigating the unexplainable deaths of several criminals.
Adam Wingard is direct the script from Jeremy Slater. Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs, and Masi Oka are producing and Doug Davison and Brian Witten is executive producing.
Qualley is best known for her role as Jill Garvey in HBO’s The Leftovers and the Gia Coppola film Palo Alto. She will next be seen in The Nice Guys opposite Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe, and Matt Bomer. She would be the most recent casting in the film, after Wolff joined the picture in September.
She is repped by UTA and Management 360.
