Margot Robbie is attached to the role of infamous Olympic skater Tonya Harding in I, TONYA. The script from Steven Rogers follows the story of Harding, a young athlete who overcame her rough childhood by becoming a competitive ice skater. She became infamous when her husband attempted to incapacitate fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan during the 1994 Olympic Games.
The film is being produced by Bryan Unkeless and his Clubhouse Pictures, as well as Robbie and her LuckyChap Entertainment. Financiers are currently circling, while Robbie is leading the charge to find the right person to direct.
Rogers previously wrote this past holiday season’s Love The Coopers which starred John Goodman, Diane Keaton, and Steve Martin, as well as Stepmom with Susan Sarandon, Julia Roberts, and Jena Malone.
Robbie burst on the scene with her performance opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf Of Wall Street and can currently be seen in theaters in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. She also stars in this summer’s The Legend Of Tarzan and the highly anticipated Suicide Squad as Harley Quinn.
