Mark Wahlberg has entered discussions to star in STX Entertainment’s action/thriller MILE 22, while Peter Berg is in talks to direct. Ronda Rousey and Iko Uwais, who both appeared in the cult-favorite martial-art pic The Raid: Redemption and its sequel, will also star.
Scripted by Graham Roland, the film centers on a CIA agents (Wahlberg) stationed in Indonesia, who takes on the mission of escorting a revealed informant from the heart of the city to a getaway plane 22 miles away. En route, the pair fight for their lives as they fend off crooked cops, criminal tyrants, and armed locals, all bent on killing the duo before they can even make it out of the city. Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson will produce with Berg, who was announced to be producing in March. Roland will executive produce.
Regarding the project, Berg announced: “I have had a working relationship with Adam Fogelson (STX Entertainment Chairman) that dates back longer than almost any other relationship I have in this town. I consider him a genuine talent with a strong understanding of the business. He’s not only a trusted creative collaborator, but a true friend. Mark and I are thrilled to have this project with Adam and the team at STX, and we are excited to be working with Iko and Ronda to create a fresh and daring new take on the action genre.”
Wahlberg and Berg have worked together before, on 2013’s Lone Survivor, and are currently in production on Lionsgate’s BP oil spill drama Deepwater Horizon. Wahlberg will next be seen opposite Will Ferrell in Paramount’s comedy Daddy’s Home, while Berg is executive producing, showrunning, and directing the HBO/Dwayne Johnson series Ballers. Berg and Wahlberg will also reunite on Dimension’s The Six Billion Dollar Man, which is a reinvention of the classic TV series The Six Million Dollar Man.
