Mark Wahlberg is set for his own Mr. And Mrs. Smith-style buddy cop action/comedy with PARTNERS, which is in development at New Line Cinema. The Evan Turner-scripted romp follows Wahlberg as an LAPD detective who falls for a beautiful woman after a one night stand, only to find that she’s an FBI agent, and his new boss, on a high-profile case. The two team up to solve the caper, with huge action set pieces and humor in tow.
Stephen Levinson is producing via his Leverage Entertainment, while Michael Disco, Richard Brener, and Samuel J. Brown will oversee for New Line. Sources confirm that the studio is on the hunt to find the right actress to pair with Wahlberg, as well as the appropriate director to balance action/comedy.
Wahlberg’s no stranger to action/comedy, known for entries like 2 Guns, The Other Guys, and Pain & Gain. Wahlberg will next reunite with Other Guys co-star Will Ferrell for Paramount’s comedy Daddy’s Home and is currently shooting frequent collaborator Peter Berg’s drama Deepwater Horizon. In the future, he’ll suit up for The Six Billion Dollar Man adaptation and return for Paramount’s forthcoming Transformers sequels.
