Marvel has finally made it official. Creed helmer will direct BLACK PANTHER, due out February 16, 2018. Joe Robert Cole is set to pen the script.

The Disney/Marvel pic will star Chadwick Boseman in the title role. Fans got their first glimpse of Boseman as the hero in the Captain America: Civil War trailer and the first official photo.

Coogler made a name for himself with Sundance favorite Fruitvale Station, which starred his current Creed star Michal B. Jordon. Last night, Sylvester Stallone won his first Golden Globe for his supporting role in Creed.

Marvel Studios co-president Kevin Feige said, “We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family. The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct Black Panther. Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”
