On the same day that Netflix begins streaming their latest superhero series, Marvel’s The Defenders, the network has also released the first teaser trailer for their next teaming with Marvel Entertainment, Marvel’s THE PUNISHER, starring Jon Bernthal, although they have yet to announce a premiere date for the show.
Bernthal’s take on the Punisher aka Frank Castle first appeared in “Marvel’s Daredevil” Season 2, and he proved popular enough that Netflix quickly greenlit the Punisher’s own spin-off series.
Steve Lightfoot is the showrunner and executive producer of the new show, which co-stars Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman, Michael Nathason, Amber Rose Revah and Sarah Lieberman.
The character of the Punisher first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 in 1974 as part of a crime storyline, but he wouldn’t receive his own comic book until a 1986 mini-series, which similarly proved popular enough for the Punisher to warrant his own comic book. Thirty years later, the character has been the basis for three feature films of varying qualities with Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson each having a chance to play Frank Castle.
While there still isn’t a definite release date for the series premiere, you can get a first taste for it in the teaser below.
