With Gerard Butler’s recent departure from the POINT BREAK remake, Alcon Entertainment has been searching high and low for a new lead. In the meantime, they have rounded out the supporting cast by adding Matias Varela to the film.
Kathryn Bigelow directed the original 1991 film which starred Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. The remake will stick to the same storyline, following a young F.B.I. agent who infiltrates a gang of robbers who are also extreme sports enthusiasts. Varela will play one of the outlaws in the gang.
Varela has had a successful career overseas, starring in the “Snabba Cash” films alongside Joel Kinnaman, and earned a Swedish Oscar nomination for his role in the last film. Stateside, he has made guest appearances on “The Borgias” and “Covert Affairs.”
We can definitely expect to see some more announcements as the studio wants to stay on schedule with production.
Varela is repped by APA.
