White Collar alum Matt Bomer will star in the Amazon drama series based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s THE LAST TYCOON. The Hunger Games scribe Billy Ray penned the script for the show, and will both executive produce and direct for the series. Chris Keyser will serve as showrunner for the series being produced by Sony’s Tristar Television. Because the series was ordered as cast-contingent, Bomer joining the cast paves the way for the series’ production.
The story centers on Hollywood’s first wunderkind studio executive in the 1930’s, Monroe Stahr, and the power struggle between him and his mentor and current head of the studio Pat Brady. Fitzgerald based his novel on the relationship between real-life studio moguls Irving Thalberg and Louis B. Mayer. The novel was unfinished at the time of Fitzgerald’s death, yet is still widely considered to be a masterpiece.
Bomer can currently be seen in FX’s American Horror Story: Hotel. A new addition to the cast this season, Bomer has taken a major role in Ryan Murphy’s anthology series.
