Mel Gibson and Andrew Garfield are in talks to join THE CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR (aka: HACKSAW RIDGE). The WWII drama tells the true story of medic Desmond Doss, the only conscientious objector to win the Congressional Medal of Honor for his courage saving 75 men who were wounded behind enemy lines. Garfield would play Doss and Gibson would direct the project, which was previously under the direction of Randall Wallace.
Gibson made his directorial debut in 1993 with The Man Without a Face and from there went on to direct Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ, and Apocalypto. His upcoming projects include acting in Jean-François Richet’s action thriller Blood Father and producing the drama The Downer.
Garfield is best known for his roles as Spiderman in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, as well as for his role as Eduardo Saverin in David Fincher’s The Social Network. Most recently, he starred in the indie drama 99 Homes with Laura Dern and will next appear in Martin Scorsese’s drama Silence opposite Liam Neeson and Adam Driver.
