Melissa Leo, Bill Pullman Returning for the Denzel Washington Sequel “The Equalizer 2”

Just days after Pedro Pascal was cast as the villain for Denzel Washington’s action sequel , the Tracking Board can confirm that and will also be returning for the Sony Pictures film to be directed by Antoine Fuqua.  Filming will begin in Boston on Sept. 14, exactly one year before its planned release date in 2018.

In the original 2014 movie, the actors played Susan and Brian Plummer, friends to Washington’s Robert McCall with Susan being McCall’s handler when he was a CIA agent. Leo is an and Oscar-winning actor, who can next be seen in Maggie Betts’ Sundance buzz film Novitiate, which Sony Pictures Classic is bringing to some of the Sept. festivals before its scheduled release on Oct. 27. Leo also starred in Netflix’s The Most Hated Woman in America earlier this year

Pullman stars in Jared Moshe’s Western The Ballad of Lefty Brown, for which he received critical acclaim at the SXSW Festival, and he will be honored with the excellence in acting award at October’s Woodstock Festival. A24 will release the movie on Dec. 15, following an exclusive run on DirecTV. Pullman can also be seen in the currently-running USA mini-series The Sinner opposite Jessica Biel, and the busy actor has roles in the upcoming releases Battle of the Sexes and Walking Out .

The sequel to the remake of the popular Edward Woodward crime show from the eighties was written by Richard Lindheim, Michael Sloan and Richard Wenk, and it’s being produced by Jason Blumenthal, Todd Black, Washington, Steve Tisch, Mace Neufeld, Alex Siskin and Tony Eldridge.

The original The Equalizer grossed just shy of $200 million worldwide with a similar September release after having a World Premiere at the Toronto International Festival.
