Comedy power couple Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone are reuniting with The Boss scribe Steve Mallory on the New Line comedy SUPER-INTELLIGENCE, the Tracking Board has confirmed. McCarthy is attached to star in the project and produce alongside Falcone.
Plot details regarding Super-Intelligence are being kept under wraps, but the project has been described as an eccentric buddy comedy, which just so happens to be McCarthy’s forte. She and Falcone will produce via their On the Day banner.
McCarthy, Falcone and Mallory have enjoyed a long working relationship since honing their improv chops together at The Groundlings. Mallory appeared in Identity Thief and Tammy before The Boss, the latter of which he co-wrote. He also co-produced McCarthy and Falcone’s upcoming New Line comedy Life of the Party. While plot details surrounding that project remain vague, we do know the film co-stars Maya Rudolph, Gillian Jacobs, Julie Bowen and Shannon Purser from Stranger Things.
Since playing a supporting character on Gilmore Girls, McCarthy has steadily blossomed into the most in-demand female comedy star in Hollywood. She’s attached to star in the New Line comedy Maggie Claus, which was co-written by Falcone, and she also stars in Marielle Heller’s upcoming Fox Searchlight film Can You Ever Forgive Me?
