Michael Keaton could be the latest A-list actor to join the ranks of the MCU. The Oscar-nominated actor is circling the villain role in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. The news comes shortly after Sony announced and revealed the title treatment of the Spidey reboot which is being co-produced by Marvel.
The movie will star Tom Holland as the third iteration of Peter Parker as well as Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. The movie will focus on Peter’s high school days. Zendaya is also set to star, but her role, like Keaton’s, is being kept under wraps.
Jon Watts is set to direct the reboot with a script written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal will serve as producers. Spider-Man: Homecoming is slated for a July 7, 2017 release date.
Keaton is no stranger to the comic book movie world. He starred as the Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s Batman in 1989. He has since starred in multiple films and most recently received praise for his performances in the Academy Award-winning Spotlight and Birdman in 2014. He can be seen next as McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc in The Founder.
He is repped by ICM Partners and WME.
