The film chronicles Mary Pickford’s rise to become the first silent movie star, her marriage to Douglas Fairbanks, the formation of United Artists with Charlie Chaplin and D.W. Griffith, and her eventual fall into a reclusive depression fueled by alcoholism. The duo will be joining Lily Rabe as Pickford with Simpkins playing a younger version of the actress and Pitt starring as Owen Moore, Pickford’s first husband.
Julie Pacino, Jennifer DeLia and Said Zahraoui will produce.
Pitt’s former roles include Hank on “Dawson’s Creek” and Jimmy on the HBO prohibition series “Boardwalk Empire”. His film work most recently included “Silk” and “Funny Games” and he will next star in Robinson Devor’s “You Can’t Win”. He is repped by WME.
Child actress Simpkins has had recent turns in “A Single Man”, “Surveillance” and “Revolutionary Road” after getting her start in 2006’s “Sherrybaby”. She is repped by ICM.
